Information You Provide
Search entries
A name, place, or other term entered into a search widget is sent to the third-party provider operating that widget. We do not store or log those search terms on our own systems.
Messages
If you send an email or contact message, we may retain the information needed to respond. We do not share the message outside our organization unless disclosure is legally required.
Technical Data and Cookies
Like most websites, the service and its vendors may receive routine technical data when a page is loaded, including:
- IP address.
- Browser type and version.
- Device type and operating system.
- Pages viewed and time spent on those pages.
- Referring website, when one is provided.
- Date and time of the visit.
Cookie settings
Cookies help measure how visitors use the service and may support functions supplied by partners. Browser controls can block or remove cookies, although some features may work differently when cookies are restricted.
How Information Is Used
We use available information to operate and improve the service, including these ordinary purposes:
- Maintain the site’s operation and performance.
- Send search requests to the partner that handles them.
- Understand which pages readers find useful.
- Find and correct technical problems.
- Support advertising that may be based on interests.
External Websites and Advertising
The site links to BADC information, sheriff and police records routes, Virginia court or corrections pages, government portals, and outside search tools. Once you select one of those links, the receiving site’s privacy practices control. Review its policy before supplying information there.
Advertising partners can use their own systems to observe activity across sites for interest-based advertising. Those activities are controlled by the partner, not by this reference resource.
Parties That May Receive Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited information may be processed by the parties below when needed for the stated purpose:
- Search partners that process a query.
- Analytics providers.
- Advertising networks.
- Law-enforcement or government bodies responding to a valid legal order.
Security Practices
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards for the information we handle. No internet-connected system can be guaranteed fully secure, and we cannot promise that a breach will never occur.
Visitors Under 18
The service is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If a minor has sent personal information, contact us so that it can be reviewed for deletion.
Your Information Choices
You may contact us to make a reasonable request about information we hold, including a request to:
- Receive a copy of available personal information.
- Correct information that is inaccurate.
- Delete information, when appropriate.
- Opt out of certain processing where that option is available.
Policy Revisions
We may update this policy as practices or services change. A revised version will be posted here with a new effective date.
